Thanks to the Single Chain Ring design, Whyte engineers were afforded plenty of freedom to re-shape the chainstays, using custom shapes to achieve an all round more agile and dynamic ride.
With the very latest in Whyte geometry, the Whyte is based around a longer top tube, a short stem and wide bars. Add in the mm travel fork into the mix and you have a true trail-bike. This system allows quick adjustment, fantastic weather-proofing, and an ergonomic lever which is easy to operate regardless of how cold your hands might be. The table below is only a general guideline to sizing, for an accurate guide to each Whyte model and also how to measure yourself, check out the Whyte Bikes Sizing Guide.

Each successive cleaned corner builds momentum and as soon as you get a chance to drive a few good pedal strokes through things really pick up. The big, supple WTB Bronson tyres will start to plane over small rocks and roots that can choke the momentum of smaller wheels and leave conventional hardtails rattling in their wake.
This was particularly obvious on rootier sections where wear and tear had exposed bedrocks. The backward weight distribution means the front end pops up and over obstacles easily and despite the long front it manuals a lot easier than most 29ers, so ditches and drops are no problem. The long, low front and quality Fox F29 fork keep it lined up and predictable when lighter, racier bikes often start to lose the plot.
While the fork is taut and short rather than bump hungry when the hits get bigger, the Whyte feels more capable than most mm 29ers when things start getting bullish.
As soon as we drove our weight through the flat bars and down into the big front tyre contact patch we were blowing up big dust clouds round loamy berms as the WTB tyres ripped and roared their way in and out of traction.
This not only lets you run a singlespeed setup without a tensioner, but also get the back end within 8mm of the shortest Whyte 26in hardtail setting for fast summer handling and then open it out for more mud room in winter.
Continuous outer cable routing and Crud Catcher mounts provide filthy weather protection. Whyte have only gone for bigger wheels on the larger For those who want a full suspension setup designed for conquering trails, the Whyte T bike is their best offering aside from the pro-oriented The alloy frame benefits from magnesium enrichment to make sure that it is lighter and stronger than bog standard aluminium equivalents.
Each element pulls in the same direction, delivering stiffness when you need it and shock absorption when the big hits start raining down. The Coniston is at the peak of this particular pack, combining expert handling and rider control regardless of the ground beneath you.
You get an SR Suntour NRX-S LO Lite front fork with 63mm of travel and a hardtail setup which lets you accelerate smoothly and quickly whether you are pulling away from traffic or heading across the local parkland. For those who want to get the edge in races as well as having a good cross country bike between their thighs the 20C range is a good place to look.
There is plenty to like in the many different Whyte Bikes product ranges on offer at the moment and the British connection will make you feel like you are investing your money in a worthwhile firm with grass roots support.
Like many cyclists, I've been riding bikes since I was very young and despite now being just a little older, I love it just as much.
