How does piggy influence ralph

Ralph's character is definitely influenced by his background: "Daddy taught me. He's a commander in the Navy. When he says, 'Daddy' it demonstrates his youth and immaturity even though the authoritative figure he will become whilst being on the island is contradictory from the natural immaturity he has.

When Ralph is introduced to Piggy we instantly differentiate the two by the way they speak: "sucks to your ass-mar! Piggy is in a lower socio-economic class and the two boys being forced into co-habitation together highlights the contrast between the two defined classes of society.

Piggy represents the rational world. By frequently quoting his aunt, he also provides the only female voice. Piggy's intellect benefits the group only through Ralph ; he acts as Ralph's advisor. He cannot be the leader himself because he lacks leadership qualities and has no rapport with the other boys.

Piggy also relies too heavily on the power of social convention. He believes that holding the conch gives him the right to be heard.

Why is Ralph chosen to be the chief? Why does Jack think he should be the chief? Who is the first boy to die on the island?

Why does Jack hate Ralph? What is the beast? What does Simon want to tell the other boys? No one calls Piggy by his rightful name we never even learn it. But the conch does benefit him. Without rules and order, people like Piggy get squashed—literally. With the conch, everyone gets a fair chance. If he's holding the conch, it doesn't matter if he's fat and unathletic.

His voice matters just as much as anyone else's. That's probably why he defends it even when he and Ralph are being attacked by Jack's gang, holding it up and demanding, "Which is better—to have rules and agree, or to hunt and kill? It's too bad for the boys that they don't listen, since Piggy has some pretty good ideas—like that the beast isn't real. He believes in science, saying "Life […] is scientific, that's what it is.

In a year or two when the world is over they'll be traveling to Mars and back" 5. So, naturally he wears glasses.
